Course: DBT211 Design in Everyday Life
Course Description:

An insight into the basis of human behavior and an understanding of proper design that is appropriate in everyday life within Thai culture. The course will also explore current global social trends to see the effects of individuals’ selective determination in using, meeting, and living with the value of design.

 

Context:

The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the basic elements of how individuals select, spend and use any products, services and all innovative creations designed under the collaborative process. Proper knowledge and understanding of psychological and sociological elements and criteria of design including from, function and aesthetics will allow students to achieve the successful implementation in everyday life.

 

Contents:

Human behavior; self development and time management; good style of living; criteria, factors and trends that affect product design, commercial design, innovation, architecture, and technology; design elements and their priority; creativity and design process, design development, implementation and management

 

Teaching Approach:

The classes will be conducted primarily in lectures and discussions in given topics or case studies. Class participation is designed to develop the crucial public speaking skill. Additional approaches such as group and individual presentation in class using all kind of media with immediate feedbacks from critics, workshops and exercises, home assignments and field trips (in and out of campus) are also adopted throughout the course.

Course Objectives:
1) To understand human factors that influence behavior
2) To understand the concept of self development and time management to be able to prioritize issues in life and become a competent thinker, critic, listener and idea presenters
3) To understand design, the necessity of design and the influences on many aspects of everyday life including iconography, commercials, innovative media and products
4) To understand and be able to properly implement design development process to prioritize functions and complete assigned works for people in different contexts and scales
